01 · the problem

Robots that grasp cannot feel.

Every LeRobot dataset on the Hub records the same four things.

  • observation.images.*3 cameras
  • observation.state6 joints
  • action6 targets
  • observation.contactnothing

Contact only exists at the moment of manipulation. No open dataset records it. Policies infer contact from pixels, and miss in the last two millimetres.

02 · the idea

A magnetised band cast into a soft skin, one 3-axis magnetometer underneath. Press the skin, the band moves, the field changes.
